Acupuncture.
The Acupuncture modality.
Chinese medicine states that; where there is stagnant Qi, there illness in the body.
Therefore, the purpose of acupuncture is, with the application of hair-thin needles to move the Qi, your Body's electricity.

Moxibustion - the burning of Moxa.
Moxa is a herb, Chinese mugwort. When burnt releases infra-red heat. Moxa is burnt on or next to the skin to move Qi. It is very effective against cold/deficient conditions, like incontinence or some types of IBS.

Cupping.
Glass or plastic vessels adhere to the skin by inducing a vacuum in the vessel, drawing skin into the cup and leaving temporary circular marks on the skin.
Cupping is well known for relaxing tight muscles, but is beneficial for moving Qi and blood that is in excess as well as toxins in the body.

What Makes My Acupuncture Different?
Many practitioners base their treatments on Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) point selection.
While I draw on these principles where appropriate, my approach is primarily guided by the Balanced Method—a refined system of acupuncture known for both its precision and effectiveness.
In practice, this means I often treat an issue by working on a different area of the body, rather than needling directly where the discomfort is felt. Thus allowing for a more effective and responsive treatment experience.
• Noticeable results, often within the session;
Many people feel a clear reduction in pain or restriction as we work, creating a sense of ease quite quickly.
• A gentler, more considered approach;
If an area is inflamed or sensitive, needling directly into it can sometimes aggravate things. By working distally, we support the body’s healing process without adding unnecessary irritation.
• A treatment you can feel as it unfolds;
Because the affected area is left free, you’re able to move and test it during the session. This allows us to assess progress in real time and refine the treatment as needed.
Once the immediate issue has settled, I’ll often incorporate additional points to support the body more broadly—helping to address the underlying cause, not just the symptom itself.

A Thoughtful Approach to Lasting Results
It’s very common to feel significantly better after the first session. For many, that initial relief can feel like enough.
However, while the symptom may have eased, the underlying pattern is often still present.
Over time, this can lead to the issue returning, creating a cycle of temporary relief rather than lasting change.
To move beyond this, I usually recommend a short course of treatment—typically three or more sessions in close succession. This allows us to:
• Fully settle the initial discomfort
• Correct the underlying cause of the symptoms
• Identify the contributing lifestyle factors
• Support the body in holding the improvement long-term
This approach is designed not just to help you feel better in the moment, but to support a more stable, lasting sense of wellbeing.
FAQs

What to expect from acupuncture with Andy

If you're new to acupuncture or exploring a natural way to ease pain, improve mobility or balance stress, you're in the right place. I’ve answered the most common questions below so you know exactly what to expect before booking your first session.

I don't like needles, can you still help me?

That does narrow the scope of treatment, but it doesn’t make treating you impossible for me, it may just take longer.
Best thing you can do is call me and we can talk about it.

I have Peripheral Neuropathy, my GP suggested acupuncture. Can you help me?

Short answer, Yes. A few years ago I treated my Mum for PN, it took a while, with dietary changes and research. But we got there.

Does Acupuncture hurt?

I need you to feel something. Maybe a dull ache, a feeling of heat, a muscle twitch... something.

Help! I've pulled a muscle in my back! Can you help me?

If you can get to me (and preferably make it up the stairs to my treatment room), then Yes.
I'm VERY confident that I can help you!

How long does it take to see results?

That depends on your issues. If you come to me with a list, we will probably focus on what I know I can treat quickly and /or what will give you a better quality of life, now.
If your issues are chronic, then it will probably take longer for the changes in the body to occur.
In such cases I advise around 6 sessions to start with, observe changes to how the body feels after the session.
I may do something different in your next treatment, there is probably a few ways to treat your issue.

What My Patients Say
"I began as an acupuncture client for Andy nearly a year ago. In that time, my overall health has significantly improved. Andy's approach to acupuncture is with an acute understanding of how my body responds to the treatment which he carefully plans for each session. He also has included some useful lifestyle suggestions which has helped my body stay on track between sessions. As an acupuncturist, Andy is empathetic and professional. I highly recommend him and will continue to see him in the future. "
